The Theory of Everything

Theory of Everything

Theory of EverythingA story about Steven Hawking, about whom I knew very little.  I had not read his books, although I know they are very popular.  However I gained a new appreciation as this movie depicted the onset and development of a huge disability.  It was a bit surprising to read about him getting a divorce while very disabled, but in the movie when you see it in the context of the second wife being his nurse, it becomes more credible.

It’s A Wonderful Life

It's a wonderful lifeKudos to the Nugget for showing this movie over Christmas.  Although we were packed in at the front with a full theater, it was still great seeing this classic on the big screen.  It may not be a Christmas movie per se, but it is still a good one to see over the holidays.

A Christmas Carol

A Christmas CarolAnother fine production from Northern Stage.  Even though we were on the far side – it didn’t matter – all the seats are good in that theater.  This was an enjoyable rendition of the play with creepy ghosts and an appropriate Scrooge.

Interstellar

Interstellar

InterstellarThere was a lot of build-up around this movie, including much of an issue of Wired.  But the movie itself warranted the reputation.  The beginning was suitably mysterious, apparently disconnected.  The space travel was very realistic, with echoes of Europa Report.

Hanover High 2014 Fall Choral Concert

Another fine concert from the Hanover High choral students.  Particular highlights (no pun intended) were the initial choral piece “Bashana Haba’ah” with able accompaniment particularly by Erika Smith on cello.  Noah Kahan and Lulu Fairclough-Stewart did a great duet with “Skinny Love”.  The “Key of H” barbershop quartet also did well with “Swing Low”, although I didn’t understand their opening bits with running across the stage.

The medleys were ok, but I think it would be better if they focussed on a smaller set of songs – instead of trying to keep them all.
